This story involves three nerds wandering sketchy streets with a Macbook, and ends with a confrontation at a bus stop.”

Apple’s $30 apology for iPhone activation delays?

iPhone 3G S users are still experiencing delays activating their new smartphones, but Apple apparently wants to make it up to users. As a way of apology for the delays, the same e-mail said Apple plans to offer customers a credit iTunes Store credit for “the inconvenience this delay has caused.”

Jobs Had Liver Transplant

Steve Jobs, who has been on medical leave from Apple Inc. since January to treat an undisclosed medical condition, received a liver transplant in Tennessee about two months ago. The chief executive has been recovering well and is expected to return to work on schedule later this month, though he may work part-time initially.

iPhone 3G S chipset handles 720p video recording at 833MHz

Rapid Repair identified the chipset as the SoC S5PC100 from Samsung and thus confirm an ARM Cortex A8 running at 600 MHz (operates at up to 833MHz though) and the ability to record 720p video and handle real-time video conferencing should Apple choose to go in that direction (iPhone 3G S records VGA only). iPhone Software, Hardware and Carrier: 2 Out of 3 Ain’t Bad


The Apple-focused blogosphere is positively hopping this week, and it’s all about the new iPhone 3G S and new iPhone OS 3.0 — with a little sprinkle of AT&T action thrown in. Early reviews have been largely positive about the new 3G S, pegging it as a evolutionary upgrade rather than anything revolutionary. As for the new operating system that’s available to existing iPhone owners, most everyone seems pleased, too. As for AT&T, well, you might think the company could get at least a little love.

iPhone 3.0 Update Delivers Prodigious Patch Batch

CWmike writes “Apple patched 46 security vulnerabilities in the iPhone and iPod Touch, half of them in the Safari browser and its WebKit rendering engine, as it released iPhone OS 3.0 on Wednesday. One of the patched WebKit vulnerabilities stands out because of the attention it received in March, when a German college student, Nils, walked away with a ,000 cash prize for hacking Safari at the Pwn2Own challenge. Nils used a bug in WebKit’s handling of SVGList objects to crack Safari.”
